Scientific Name. Aerva Lanata.

Family.amaranthaceae.

Features:Balipoovu (Aerva lanata) is a herbaceous plant that produces clusters of tiny white to pale red flowers. The other names of balipoovu are cherula and cherpula. Balipoovu is also spelt balippoovu, balipoove, balippoove, bali poovu and other variations. This herb is used in Ayurveda medicine. The main usable part is root. The plant is often sites as the best cure for kidney stones.There are different decoctions prepared from this plant, which are used in treating such serious diseases like gonorrhea, problems to kidney and bladder, diabetes, etc. Decoctions prepared from the root of this plant are also used in the treatment of different kinds of headaches.

Scientific Name.Aegle marmelos.

Family.

Features: The roots as well as the bark are used in the form of a decoction as a remedy in melancholia, intermittent fevers and palpitation of the heart. In pharmacological trials, as in the case of fruits, the root has exhibited anti-amoebic and hypoglycaemic properties.

Scientific Name: Bacopa monnieri (Linn.) Pennell.
Family: Scrophulariaceae.
Features: Annual creeper grows sticky on ground. Leaves simple, opposite, decussate, sessile, entire, obovate-oblong entire, fleshy and about 1 cm length. Flowers are whitish of bluish white, solitary, arises from the axils. Fruits contain many seeds.
Plant pacifies vitiated vata, pitta, skin diseases, neuralgia, inflammations, epilepsy, insanity, ulcers, splenomegali, flatulence, fever, and general debility. Useful part : Plant as a whole.










3. Ayurvedic Name.Bulu.

Scientific Name.Terminalia belirica.

Family.

Features:The dried fruit constitutes the drug 'Bahera'. The half-ripe fruit is considered to be purgative but the ripe and dried fruit has the opposite property. The fruit is one of the constituents of the popular Indian medicine "Triphala" the three myrobalans, the other two being T. chebula and Emblica officinalis. The combined effect of these drugs is claimed to possess rejuvenating, astringent, cardioprotective, aperient, antiflatulant, antacid, anthelmintic,cardioprotective, laxative and antibacterial properties.

Scientific Name: Atropa bella-donna Linn.








Family: Solanaceae.








Features: An erect perennial herb grows up to 1 meter. Leaves alternate, lanceolate- ovate, two leaves arises form one axils; one small and other one large. Flowers are solitary, small, found in leaf axils, light purple colored. Fruits are purple berries.








Plant pacifies vitiated vata, cardiac debility, stomach pain, colic, muscular spasm and urinary retention. It is widely used to stop breast milk secretion. In large dose it is poisonous. Useful part : Root, leaves, tincture.

Family: Balsaminaceae.








Features: Small succulent annual herb grows up to 30 cm in height. Leaves simple, alternate, ovate-lanceolate, serrate; Flowers showy, varying colored, axillary, solitary or in pairs. Fruits pale green dehiscent capsules, containing small globose reddish seeds.








Plant pacifies vitiated pitta, inflammation, burns and scalds, ulcers, constipation, arthritis, urinary retention and excessive exfoliation of skin. Useful part : Whole plant.

Features: An erect annual herb grows up to 1 meter in height. Leaves linear, flaccid and few. Spike flattened, 30 cm long and terminal. Spikelets sessile, arranged in 3 on two sides of rachis. Fruit elliptic short pointed caryopsis.








Plant pacifies vitiated kapha, pitta, cough, asthma, urinary retention, urinary tract infection, gastric ulcers, burns, headache, anemia and general debility. It is a good diet in convalescent period. Useful part : Grains.

Family: Chenopodiaceae.








Features: A biennial herb grows up to 30 cm long. Leaves simple, crowded in the base of condensed stem, ovate; flowers 2-3 in long slender spikes; tuberous tap root, is purple in color. Tap root and leaves are used as vegetable.
